Rooftop HOTSpot: Lobby Bar and Bistro at Twelve Hotel

Okay, I know a lot of our readers are college kids, or recent graduates, and we're still into the "Knuck If You Buck" type of venues. But I promise that if you step out of the box on a Friday night, and attend LOBBY Bar and Bistro's "Urban Hang Suite" at the Twelve Hotel in Atlantic Station, you won't be disappointed!

Women Behind the Music Kickoff in Atlanta

On Tuesday, @Style_Shari and I had the pleasure of attending ASCAP's 2nd Annual Women Behind the Music event.  The Atlanta kickoff featured a panel moderated by V-103's Rashan Ali, with honorees Kelly Rowland, Entertainment Attorney: Sandra Brown, and General Manger of Grand Hustle: Hannah Kang.  Did y'all know Hannah Kang was managing the Shark Bar at the age of 19?? Crzy! At 19, I was selling jeans at the Gap. She won!

Cali Connect: Kendrick Lamar x H.O.C

We all know how Sasha loves artists that are considered "underground." Well here's one of Cali's Finest Undergrounders, and no I'm not talking about green. Even though that would be a great name for some, right? "Hey can I get some of that Cali's Finest Underground? Thanks my dude." But neway, the artist I'm referring to is Kendrick Lamar formerly known as K Dot. I'm feeling his whole vibe, especially this particular track "H.O.C". Nice little smooth, chopped 'N'screwed-esque breakdown at the end. Watch the visual for it right here:

Bun B::Goodie Mob::Big Boi @Heineken Inspire Atlanta

The Heineken Inspire Tour stopped in Atlanta this Saturday. Free Heineken, performances by Bun B, Goodie Mob, and Big Boi, all made for a kick-ass day concert at Opera Nightclub. Lil Will and Blackowned Cbone also came through. Lil Will was a definite blast from the past! Cutty Cartel stopped by for his feature on "Shutterbug".

Kanye West::Devil In a New Dress

Now, I'm not the type of music fan to listen to an artist and always say " Aw man, I miss the old :insert artist here:"(Even if I really do.) I like for artists to progress, try new sounds, such and such. But the latest "GOOD Friday" track that Kanye dropped on Friday reminds me of the old 'Ye. :all smiles:

"Put your hands to the constellations. The way you look should be a sin. You my sensation."

NEW Music: Wiz Khalifa f/ J.A.E. x Black & Yellow

Got some new Wiz Khalifa for ya. Black & Yellow featuring J.A.E. Enjoy!

New Music!! Big K.R.I.T.: "If I Should Die"

Another one of my favorite artists of 2010: BIG K.R.I.T. So can I just say that the entire "K.R.I.T. Wuz Here" mixtape sounded like a 70's blaxploiation film, reincarnated as a mixtape. And I love that. The moment when K.R.I.T. really won me over on that mixtape was the sampling of Dead Presidents in "2000 and Beyond". It was a wrap then. He had me.

Picture Story: N*E*R*D x Terence Rushin Photography x Cuervo Games

So, I'm a little late with this, but The Rooftop wasn't really on and popping yet when this happened.. But better late than never. Here are a shitload of pics from the N*E*R*D show at The Cuervo Games, held at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta on 8/14/10, by the amazing Terence Rushin. Check out the entire photo set here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/terence_rushphotography/sets/72157624735539054/with/4896658989/

Now here's a little story. So me, @Style_Shari, @DayyumGina, and @r0bynelise go to the show. We get there RIGHT when NERD is about to go on. Great timing. And the show is AMAZING! At one point a girl starts crowd surfing and she gets dropped. So Pharell says "HOl up, hold up! Did i just see a girl try to crowdsurf and yall dropped her? naw! not at an NERD show! Try it again!" So the same girl starts crowdsurfing again, and this time everybody was determined that ol girl was NOT gonna fall until she had worked her way through the whole crowd. Pharell even "suggested" that everybody start a moshpit. That's my kind of entertainer right there. But I guess I shouldn't expect anything less from a dude who wrote the line "It's a raw night, who wants to bar fight??"

New Rick Ross "KING BOSS"

:in my Smokie from Friday voice: Dammmmmnnn Ricky!! Didn't even give us time to recuperate from the summertime, rideout masterpiece that was "Teflon Don" before he hit us with this. I'm not mad at him. AT ALL. Check out the new track, King Boss. Supposedly Ricky Rozay is going in on Slim Thug with this line:

" She dated Slim Thug, but now she f*ck with me, She finally made it to the biggest boss, luckily"

But Sasha F. Thumper doesn't support or entertain rap beefs. I support music.

Don't Talk About It, Be About It

A couple of weeks ago Shari and I, my partner and one of my best friends since 6th grade/2000, decided to go chill at Sip. Chai Tea Lattes over ice, on deck! After a few minutes Shari says “Girl, you know we should start a blog.” I loved the idea. The only thing left to figure out, was our topic. She loves Fashion. I love Music. And not only do I love music, but I love putting people on to music that they’ve never heard before. Bow, there you have it. Simple. Fashion + Music.

Next step: Name of the blog. We’re looking out the window, and I throw out the word Skyline. Shari turns that into rooftop. The Rooftop! Who doesn’t love a downtown rooftop?? Standing on top of a building, white sofas all around, music blasting, drinks, maybe a pool, looking out over the city you plan on conquering. And not on some pretentious Diddy-esque type vibe, but just you and the people you truly love to be around, and share time with. Girls with cut-off shorts on, and dudes with tattoo sleeves and dreads.

So here’s the setup. Taryn: Music. Shari: Fashion. Both trying to pave careers in Public Relations and survive during this Post-Grad period, in the city that I love: Atlanta. I like to imagine that we’re two ninja assassins on a mission, and Shari’s weapon is her amazing sense of style, and a pair of razor sharp heels that she can kill you with, while my weapon is a sword. No gimmicks or trick weapons for me. Just straight slicing and dicing dudes. Then I walk away from the scene in slow motion, all black everything, 5 inch heels, and hair blowing in the wind. Where’d the wind come from?? Who knows. But back to our regularly scheduled programming.

My favorite artists are Ray J, Vanilla Ice, and Young Berg. Just kidding! You were about to exit off this page, weren’t you?? But yeah, I’m not going to list my favorite artists [:cough: OutKast, the whole Dungeon Family, Organized Noize :cough:] because we’ll be here all day. And as a dude once told me about myself, “you don’t like to talk about it, you like to be about it.” So since you’ll be visiting our blog at least once a week (RIGHT?? Right!), you’ll eventually get a feel for the artists that inspire me. For now, just know that my first love in life has been and will always be MUSIC. When I was younger I played the violin, and ever since then, it’s been a wrap. I have amazing memories of riding around in my mom’s ‘89 Tercel listening to Goodie Mob’s “Get Rich to This”, riding in my aunt’s ’96 Maxima listening to Bootsy Collins, any and everything produced by Timbaland, and soaking up her love for all things Prince. I may not be a musician, but I’m definitely a certified Music Connoisseur.

I’m excited about this venture, and about the chance to share this time in my life with people that are just as passionate about music as I am. In the words of Wiz Khalifa: inhale “Yeahhh BITCH” exhale."
