A couple of weeks ago Shari and I, my partner and one of my best friends since 6th grade/2000, decided to go chill at Sip. Chai Tea Lattes over ice, on deck! After a few minutes Shari says “Girl, you know we should start a blog.” I loved the idea. The only thing left to figure out, was our topic. She loves Fashion. I love Music. And not only do I love music, but I love putting people on to music that they’ve never heard before. Bow, there you have it. Simple. Fashion + Music.
Next step: Name of the blog. We’re looking out the window, and I throw out the word Skyline. Shari turns that into rooftop. The Rooftop! Who doesn’t love a downtown rooftop?? Standing on top of a building, white sofas all around, music blasting, drinks, maybe a pool, looking out over the city you plan on conquering. And not on some pretentious Diddy-esque type vibe, but just you and the people you truly love to be around, and share time with. Girls with cut-off shorts on, and dudes with tattoo sleeves and dreads.
So here’s the setup. Taryn: Music. Shari: Fashion. Both trying to pave careers in Public Relations and survive during this Post-Grad period, in the city that I love: Atlanta. I like to imagine that we’re two ninja assassins on a mission, and Shari’s weapon is her amazing sense of style, and a pair of razor sharp heels that she can kill you with, while my weapon is a sword. No gimmicks or trick weapons for me. Just straight slicing and dicing dudes. Then I walk away from the scene in slow motion, all black everything, 5 inch heels, and hair blowing in the wind. Where’d the wind come from?? Who knows. But back to our regularly scheduled programming.
My favorite artists are Ray J, Vanilla Ice, and Young Berg. Just kidding! You were about to exit off this page, weren’t you?? But yeah, I’m not going to list my favorite artists [:cough: OutKast, the whole Dungeon Family, Organized Noize :cough:] because we’ll be here all day. And as a dude once told me about myself, “you don’t like to talk about it, you like to be about it.” So since you’ll be visiting our blog at least once a week (RIGHT?? Right!), you’ll eventually get a feel for the artists that inspire me. For now, just know that my first love in life has been and will always be MUSIC. When I was younger I played the violin, and ever since then, it’s been a wrap. I have amazing memories of riding around in my mom’s ‘89 Tercel listening to Goodie Mob’s “Get Rich to This”, riding in my aunt’s ’96 Maxima listening to Bootsy Collins, any and everything produced by Timbaland, and soaking up her love for all things Prince. I may not be a musician, but I’m definitely a certified Music Connoisseur.
I’m excited about this venture, and about the chance to share this time in my life with people that are just as passionate about music as I am. In the words of Wiz Khalifa: inhale “Yeahhh BITCH” exhale."
