Another one of my favorite artists of 2010: BIG K.R.I.T. So can I just say that the entire "K.R.I.T. Wuz Here" mixtape sounded like a 70's blaxploiation film, reincarnated as a mixtape. And I love that. The moment when K.R.I.T. really won me over on that mixtape was the sampling of Dead Presidents in "2000 and Beyond". It was a wrap then. He had me.
With this new track, "If I should Die", the Meridian, Mississippi rapper, K.R.I.T. stays with his same sound and formula. Thought-provoking lyrics over syrupy, bass heavy, undeniably Southern beats. Lyrically, Self proclaimed "Country of the Countriest", KRIT touches on everything from the black man's plight in America to "killing beats, f*ckin freaks on the top floor". Can't be mad at that. The track is produced by K.R.I.T. and samples Marving Gaye's 1973, "If I Should Die Tonight." Off of Jonny Snipes' Good Talk Vol. 9. If you love lyrics as much as love you beats, trust me, KRIT is that dude. In the words of Levar Burton: "But you don't have to take my word for it."
